An Outward Investment Account (OIA) supports eligible outward investment flows under a regulated framework. Account usage is subject to guidelines, thresholds and approved investment categories.

- Debits and credits to the OIAs are subject to the regulation and the direction issued by Central Bank of Sri Lanka
- Each of the eligible category to open OIAs should submit relevant documentation to prove the residence status in addition to the documents required as per the Direction No 14 of 2021 when investing funds from OIAs

- Possibility for re –investment subject to the permitted investments, by utilizing funds up to fifty percent of the value of capital gains of previous outward investments credited to the OIA, without being subject to any threshold.
FAQs
An OIA is a foreign currency account for Sri Lankan residents and entities to invest overseas within permitted limits.
Resident individuals, Sri Lankan-registered companies, and partnerships are eligible.
Savings, Current (no cheque/overdraft), and Fixed Deposits with investment returns.
NGOs and individuals/entities under legal investigation related to foreign exchange laws cannot open or use an OIA without CBSL clearance.
OIA holders can invest overseas in shares, debt securities, units, sovereign bonds, overseas offices, and other approved instruments subject to CBSL-defined thresholds.
